Lake Samish Triathlon & Open Water Swim

The third annual Lake Samish Triathlon and Open Water Swim will be held on August 7 (Triathlon) and August 8 (Open Water Swim).  These events have raised over $11,000 in the last two years for the Lake Samish Fire Dept.  The proceeds have been used to purchase a defibrillator and other emergency equipment to serve Lake Samish residents.  As you may know from the past, the triathlon staged out of Camp Lutherwood has required traffic restrictions as the triathletes bike and run on Roy Rd. and W. Lake Samish Dr.  We are working to reduce the inconvenience to local residents.

Triathlon race starts at 8:30 am.

Course:
Races start/finish at Lutherwood Camp.  The swim extends from Lutherwood beach and goes out approximately 200 meters and returns, the bike loop goes around the lake twice, the run heads down Roy Road and partially down W. Lake Samish Dr.  The course will be marked with mile markers. The roads are not closed to traffic.

Road and lake safety provided by the Lake Samish Fire Department and Whatcom County Sheriffs Department.

Open Water Swim

The Open Water Swim takes place August 8 (Sunday). The swim distances are 1.5 miles and 3 miles and take place in West Arm of Lake Samish. The swim starts and finishes at Camp Lutherwood and circles the lake twice.

The Open Water Swim is a separate event from the annual Swim-A-Thon and swimmers do not need to collect sponsors or acquire their own kayak support. The swim is USAT sanctioned.   Lifeguards will be on surfboards and in kayaks on the lake to assistant any one who needs help during the swim.
