Chuckanut Mountain Park District: Where the Cascades meet the sea
The formation of a new park and open space district is emerging from a collaboration effort of Skagit and Whatcom County residents. The Chuckanut Mountains Park District has been proposed by local citizens to encompass an area from Fairhaven to Edison, with the regional focus on Chuckanut-Blanchard Mountain area from the marine shoreline east. The purpose of the park district is to enhance the quality of life in the region by acquiring, protecting and providing responsible stewardship of significant natural areas, view-scapes and recreational lands. A citizen steering committee has been formed to launch a serious exploration of this idea and its feasibility. Public interest will be publicly solicited in the near future.
