Dittrich Park
WHAT: Whatcom County (WC) owns 30 acres on the South end of East Lake Samish Drive that is designated to become a new County park (currently referred to as Dittrich Park) sometime in the future. In 2008, the County completed a wetlands delineation study on the property. Also some land surveys have been completed. From time to time, additional wetlands studies will take place and the Fire Department is planning to burn one of the County-owned homes on the site for a training exercise.
WHEN: No timeline is available
for planning or actual activity at this site. Mike McFarland, Director, WC
Parks and Recreation, advised the LSA Board that there is not a reliable
timeline for initiating relevant community discussion on Dittrich Park.
Mike indicated that there are other locations with a higher priority than Dittrich Park that Parks and Recreation will
address first.

ACTION:
Members of the LSA Board met with Mike McFarland, Director, WC Parks and
Recreation, in August 2008. The Board requested that Parks and Recreation staff
create an opportunity for Lake
Samish community members
to provide input regarding the type and use of County park facilities in our
neighborhood prior to further County planning activity. Mike committed to
provide status as requested.
The
LSA Board expects to, in the future, host a meeting for the community to come
together and provide input to the County Parks staff on community ideas for an
ideal park at this location.
STATUS: As of March 2010, Mike McFarland reiterated
there is no planning being scheduled for this site.
